Amidst Strict Rules Regarding Abortion, ‘Morning-after’ Pills Are in Demand in the U.S

Incoming news confirms that the demand for the morning-after pill is rising in the U.S. This is a noteworthy trend as strict abortion rules are prevalent.

Analysis reveals that Plan B emergency contraception sales are increasing while birth control pill and condom sales are down. Plan B Emergency Pill is another term for ‘Morning-after’ tablets. The conclusion is drawn after analyzing data from five long years.

In addition, there has been a noticeable drop in in-person doctor visits due to the greater over-the-counter availability of Plan B emergency contraception at pharmacies.

What Is Plan B Medication?

Plan B, or the morning-after pills, are emergency contraceptives. The FDA has clearly stated that the medicine is not for routine consumption. However, the agency has yet to come up with more instructions on any possible health hazards that may result from its use compared to standard pills.

The pill can assure about 75 to 89% of effectiveness in preventing abortion. However, this is not a remarkable number as the standard medications impart around a 99% success rate.

Some conservative groups appear to be against the widespread use of Plan B medication.

Nonetheless, many contend that given the expansion of abortion facilities, efforts by some conservative groups to limit access to Plan B should be rejected.

“The answer is not to restrict Plan B but to open up the doors to other types of contraception and make it easier for people to access information. There is a lot of distrust about highly effective methods of contraception, especially those with hormones in them. People still want Plan B at their fingertips. Still, in terms of those common ongoing methods — distrust is rising,” informs Dr. Kate White, a gynecologist & associate professor, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
